Acupuncture Treatment For Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids (also referred to as uterine leiomyomas, myomas of uterus, fobromyomas, leiofibromyomas, fibroleiomyomas, and fibromas ) are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that originate in the uterus (womb).

 

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in females and typically found during the middle and later reproductive years (30 to 50 years old, mostly 40 to 50 years old). Uterine fibroids occur in at least one quarter of all women.  

 

Many women don’t feel any symptoms with uterine fibroids, but for others, these fibroids can cause excessive menstrual bleeding, painful menstruation, abnormal periods, uterine bleeding, painful sexual intercourse, discomfort, urinary frequency, urinary urgency and infertility.

 

According to TCM, uterine fibroids are kinds of phlegm and blood stagnation accumulated in uterus. Therefore, the acupuncture treatment principle for uterine fibroids is to remove the phlegm and blood stagnation by improving the patients’ Qi’s circulation and then improving their spleens’ function and blood circulation.
